WHAT IS CURRICULUM???

..."science that has as an objective to study the selection of educational knowledges during the processes of individualization and socialization; given during the teaching, knowledge and evaluation process according to a defined model of person and society..."

Curriculum is not a concept but a cultural construction. Is not an abstract concept that has any existence previous to human existence; but it is a way of organize a group of educational human practices. Each educational practice suppose a concept of man and of world.
In other words, curriculum is a term originated in 1918 by Bobbit in U.S.A. It meant to only contents that must be taught. It is all that a student must learn and for that he/she must to propose objectives and goals.

"A report on Psychological Source of the Curriculum"

1- Psychological Source:
The psychological Source of the curriculum deals with the processes of learning and development of students. The knowledge of the evolutive development during the different ages of the estudent and the lawas that rule knowledge and cognitive processes give to curriculum and important framework about oportunities and ways of teaching: When to learn?, What to learn? and How to learn it?
Psychological spurce is fundamental to know what to teach, how to teach and when to teach; if we are concerned about the variables that interfere during the process teaching-learning.Therefore we (teachers) have to keep in mind that students develop certain psychological characteristics according to their growh process as well as they develop certain papacities and interests in certain stages of their lives.

2- In chilean curriculum framework, we found some statements related to the psychological source of the curriculum. On page 2 and 3 of the book it talks about the modernization that the National Comission has done in order to encourage on children and teenagers the possibility to develop as free people with conscience of their own dignity. Also, all this training must contribute to create on them the moral character leaded by love, solidarity, tolerance, truth, justice, beauty, civic sense and personal trascendence.
The acknowledgement of people`s freedom, equality and dignity impose to the State the duty of guarantee a high quality primary education for all students, without esceptions, so it contributes to eah man and woman can develop as free people and socialy responsible.
We also found on page 5 another remarkable statement that pionts out that all capacities or skills or competences that are expected from the students to achieve must have a comprehensive and valorative character because each student may achieve them in a gradual and progressive way. That statement establish clearly the psychological processes that teachers must respect patiently during the process teaching-learning.

_when to teach
_how to teach.

4- As a conclusion: I would say that the psychological source in chilean schools is very variable; all schools intend to apply and carry on the curriculum as it is established but certainly there is a gap between public and private schools. Since private schools have a more personalized attention, teachers can be aware more easily to the difficulties that their students may have and therefore do some special work in order to help them to achieve certain skills, training or any kind of problem that could be an obstacle to complete succesfully the whole process of learning the minimal contents required. That is something that can not happen on public schools with one teacher for 45 students. How can he/she (the teacher)be aware of the weakness of all his/her students?.
